After completing the course, the third-cycle student should independently be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- explain the pedagogical arguments that underlie different forms of teaching in higher education,
Competence and skills
- discuss different forms of knowledge and perspectives on learning
- assess and discuss the conditions for teachers' pedagogical work based on relevant laws, regulations and local governing documents at University West,
Judgement and approach
- critically reflect on and reason about one's own teaching based on both basic theories, subject didactics and higher education pedagogical concepts.
- critically reflect on the teaching of others based on both basic theories, subject didactics and higher education pedagogical concepts.
Entry requirements
Any student who has been admitted to the third-cycle programme in Work integrated learning (WIL) or Production technology is qualified.
The forms of assessment of student performance
The course is examined individually through written assignments and oral presentations.
Course contents
The course content consists of basic concepts of higher education teaching. Furthermore, a student-centered perspective is adopted. Reflections are related to experiences when observing an experienced teacher in relation to knowledge from course literature. Relevant laws and regulations within higher education as well as local governing documents at the university are included. Furthermore, different teaching methods, conditions for learning and the teacher's design for learning, which includes work-integrated learning, are focused on.
