After completing the course, the doctoral/licentiate must be able to independently:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Account for different theoretical and methodological perspectives on knowledge and learning and the relation between them.
Skills and Abilities
- Critically review and judge own stances to theoretical and methodological assumptions within work integrated learning with regard to the student’s own dissertation work.
- Identify, analyse and synthesise theoretical and methodological assumptions for scientific studies, relevant for work integrated learning.
Judgment and Approach
- Critically reflect over and argue for methodological and theoretical possibilities and limitations within research in work integrated learning.
- Critically reflect over and argue for research ethical consequences in relation to the student’s own dissertation work.
The forms of assessment of student performance
The course is assessed individually through written assignments and oral presentations.
Course contents
The course presents and problematizes theory of knowledge, philosophy of knowledge and sociology of knowledge. In specific focus is learning theory where different perspectives are reflected against each other. Thereafter the course deals with methodological considerations and approaches to the study of learning at workplaces or in higher education Relevant parts of the content should, if possible, be integrated into the third-cycle student’s own dissertation work.
