Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- identify, discuss, and analyze ethical problems, dilemmas, and areas of responsibility within the engineering profession.
- demonstrate awareness of engineers' responsibility for sustainable development.
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific methodology.
- demonstrate knowledge of writing techniques and presentation of results and data in scientific contexts, as well as reference management systems within engineering science.
Entry requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent. English course 6 or English level 2 in the Swedish upper secondary school or equivalent.
The forms of assessment of student performance
Active participation in seminar with written documentation.
Re-examination of seminar is carried out via individual oral examination.
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to professional ethics, and scientific communication within engineering science. Students examine ethical frameworks, professional responsibility, and discuss ethical issues related to engineering practice. The course further addresses the engineer's role in sustainable development and introduces scientific methodology, writing, data presentation, and reference management systems within engineering science.
