After completing the course, the third-cycle student should independently be able to:

- decribe and explain the basic concepts abstraction and interpretation

- explain basic aspects of trustworthiness (credibility, dependability, confirmability, transferability) in relation to the method

Entry requirements
Participants must be admitted to third-cycle program in Work Integrated and Workplace Learning or another relevant third-cycle program.
The forms of assessment of student performance
The course is examined individually through a written assignment, a seminar and mandatory components.
Course contents
The course will contribute to the ability to perform a qualitative content analysis and critically review scientific work using the method. The course covers the method’s epistemological base, examples of various kinds of suitable data, basic concepts (abstraction, and interpretation) and phases (coding, categorization, thematization) during the analysis process. Further, a hands-on exercise will be performed and reflected on. Concepts, essential to achieving trustworthiness (credibility, dependability, confirmability, transferability) will be addressed.
