Course contents
Technical development, driven by Industry 4.0 (I4.0), aims to enhance logistics and operations management through digital technologies, increased process efficiency, and value creation. The digital transformation impacts the whole supply chain. Challenges related to implementations of novel technology, as well as requiring consideration of humans, management, structure, culture, and work processes. In response to the technology-centric focus of I4.0, Industry 5.0 (I5.0) emerged, emphasizing sustainable, human-centric, and resilient perspectives. I5.0 complements I4.0 by integrating human skills with advanced technologies, creating a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines.
This course focuses on understanding the relations between technical development and management to advance and transform logistics and operations. Given the rapid advancements of technology integration, the course addresses digital technologies in relation to human acceptance, trust, decision-making, and the need for up-skilling and re-skilling to to enhance logistics and operations management.
The main field of study of industrial engineering and management includes industrial organization and operations management, logistics, purchasing, quality management, change management and knowledge management, with industrial marketing, financial management, business development and environmental technology as related subjects. Industrial engineering and management is defined as an interdisciplinary subject that integrates technical, organizational and economic perspectives to analyze, plan and improve resource management and business processes. The focus is on creating sustainable and effective solutions in complex systems taking into account technical, ecological, social and economic aspects from a holistic perspective.
