- describe how politics and economics are interrelated in the context of global dynamics
- describe the central assumptions of the main theoretical approaches in global political economy
- identify differences and interlinkages between material and ideational forces and different models of explanation within global political economy

- compare different schools of thought in global political economy
- demonstrate how theoretical approaches in global political economy can explain contemporary global dynamics
Judgment and approach
- appraise different empirical themes of the global political economy
- assess the normative and explanatory value of different theoretical orientations in global political economy
- carefully and accurately handle empirical data and theoretical perspectives when building arguments and making interpretations.

The forms of assessment of student performance
The student is assessed through an individual written take-home exam. The take-home exam tasks consist of essay and quiz components, each assessing aspects covered in the course. The student should use the course readings and other relevant academic sources when completing the take-home exam.
Course contents
This introductory course focuses on studying the interrelation of politics and economics in the context of global dynamics. Global Political Economy is an interdisciplinary field combining international relations, macroeconomics, politics, and geography. The course provides an opportunity to explore the main theoretical and methodological assumptions, as well as research areas in global political economy, and how these address contemporary global challenges. Students will gain a deeper understanding of contemporary global political economy issues from a comparative perspective. The course builds on international relations theory and provides empirical and theoretical grounding for macroeconomics and security studies.
