Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding After completing the course the student should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how digitalisation techniques can be used in industrial applications.
- show understanding of the Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory koncents.
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of virtual factory, including technologies as factory scanning, digital twins, AR/VR.
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Internet of Things koncept, including technologies as IoT-devices, communication, big data, artificiel intelligence, autonomous production units.
- explain the characteristics of digital supply chain solutions, such as traceability, information sharing and blockchain.
- explain the need for cyber security in industrial applications.
Skills and abilities After completing the course the student should be able to:
- construct simple IoT-systems for measurement and control.
- use a standard method for identification of protection worthy data and systems.
- show the ability to digitalise an industrial environment into a simulation environment.
Values and attitudes After completing the course the student should be able to:
- make judgements about the suitability of different digitalization techniques for different industrial applications based on relevant science and theory.
Entry requirements
General entry requirements and approved result from the following course/courses:
ROA200-Robotics and Automation and
VPR400-Virtual Production and
SDT200-Logic Control Engineering and
SST200-Sensor Technology and
TVB200-Manufacturing II and
LOA202-Logistics or the equivalent.
The forms of assessment of student performance
Individual written home exam with oral presentation. Laboratory exercise in group.

- Overall review of Industry 4.0
- Virtual factory and factory scanning including Augumented Reality / Virtual reality
- Digital twins
- Digital supply chain and traceability, e.g. block chain
- IoT (Internet of Things) and analysis for e.g. predictive maintenance (preventive maintenance)
- Cyber security and machine security
- Autonomous production units, e.g. self-deciding robot cells
- Big Data and Artificial Intelligence
