Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should show knowledge about and ability to apply:
- elementary descriptive statistics.
- basic measures of spread.
- basic probability theory.
- relevant discrete and continuous probability distributions and corresponding expectation and variance.
- basic linear regression.
Entry requirements
General entry requirements and approved result from the following course/courses:
MAT101-Mathematics A and
MAT220-Mathematics B or the equivalent.
The forms of assessment of student performance
Individual written exam.
Course contents
The course gives an overview of on the one hand basic descriptive statistics, and, on the other hand, basic probability theory, including fundamental concepts, such as pictographs, line plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, circle graphs, the addition law of probability, independent events, conditional probability, the binomial, Poisson and normal distribution, linear regression and Pearson's correlation coefficient.
