Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to use:
- key mathematical concepts, methods, and logical structures of linear algebra, especially vector- and matrix algebra.
- eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
- linear mappings and their basic properties.
- complex numbers and how they can be used to solve polynomial equations.
- ordinary differential equations and basic solution procedures.
- computer tools for visualization and numerical computations in the subject areas of the course.
Entry requirements
General entry requirements and approved result from the following course/courses:
MAT101-Mathematics A or the equivalent.
The forms of assessment of student performance
Individual written exam. Assignment in group.
Course contents
The course gives an overview of on the one hand basic linear algebra, and, on the other hand, basic theory and methods for ordinary differential equations, such as: systems of linear equations, matrices and determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, linear mappings, vector and matrix algebra, complex numbers, ordinary differential equations, systems of differential equations. Applications. Use of computer tools.
