Learning outcomes
The purpose of this course that the student will achieve in-depth knowledge in the field of firm’s internationalization.
On finishing the course, the student should:
Knowledge and understanding
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the internationalization process, its determinants, and impact on economy, environment, and society, including both an overview of the field and insight into existing and current research, as well as specialized knowledge in certain areas of the field.
Competence and skills
2. Demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on important theoretical perspectives on firm internationalization. 3. Demonstrate the ability to plan and, through an informed choice and use of appropriate methods, search, collect and assess data related to firms’ internationalization process. 4. Demonstrate the ability to compare different aspects of firms’ internationalization process, their implication on economy, environment, and society by interpreting and analyzing information based on different theoretical perspectives. 5. Demonstrate the ability to report clearly and discuss conclusions and the arguments they are built on in speech and writing based on the academic requirements and guidelines.
Judgement and approach
6. Demonstrate the ability to critically discuss relevant disciplinary, social and ethical issues related to firms’ international process. 7. Demonstrate an ability to critically discuss complex phenomena, issues and situations which are of relevance to the field of international process of firms.
Entry requirements
Bachelor degree of 180 HE credits, with 90 HE credits in the major subject field of business administration or equivalent.
The forms of assessment of student performance
The course is examined via one written assignment performed individually (learning outcomes 1–7) and one written assignment performed in small groups (learning outcomes 1–7) with individual presentations and opposition at seminars (learning outcomes 1, 2, 4–6).

Course contents
The course is divided into three main subject areas: Part 1 focuses on understanding the antecedents and drivers for internationalization. Part 2 focuses on understanding the internationalization process of firms, that is how firms internationalize from their entry into foreign markets to expansion. Part 3 focuses on the impact the multinational firms create on economy, environment, and society as they internationalize, their accountability, and sustainability practices.
