Learning outcomes

The course aims at developing the student’s ability to analyze literary texts, as well as the ability to discuss how texts relate to each other, to historical and cultural contexts, and to changing aesthetic and social ideals.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  1. show knowledge of different canonical texts in English-speaking literature and be able to place them in their historical and cultural contexts,
  2. demonstrate an ability to analyze and understand intertextual connections in classic and recent cultural narratives from the English-speaking world, in particular Great Britain and North America,
  3. plan, carry out and compose a literary analysis that demonstrates independent critical thought and argumentation according to academic conventions.

Entry requirements

22,5 higher education credits in English 1-30 or equivalent.
